Mummy MOT (from 6 weeks)

A Mummy MOT is a 60 minute, specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and caesarean deliveries.

It will assess how your posture, pelvic floor and stomach muscles are recovering after birth.

It is the best thing to do to know exactly where you’re at.

Initial consultation is from 6 weeks postnatal and includes:

  • Pelvic floor muscle check
  • Tummy gap check
  • Full postural Screen
  • Caesarean- section/episiotomy scar check. Scar massage and facial release if required
  • Individualised advice on safe return to exercise with your goals and lifestyle factors in mind

All babies are welcome, we can work around feeds and changes etc., please let me know in advance if possible so that I can allow for a little extra time.

Gynaecological Physiotherapy

1 in every 3 women are affected by women’s health problems over their lifetime, often during pregnancy or postnatally, and becoming more noticeable around the menopause. However, except in the most serious cases, it is very unlikely that surgery ever needs to be considered and in truth, the NICE guidelines recommend supervised pelvic floor training as the first option for women with conditions such as Pelvic Organ Prolapse (a bulging feeling in the vagina), and Stress or Urge Incontinence (uncontrolled leaking from the bladder or bowel).

To assess the pelvic floor muscle integrity, and for you to recruit the best technique when exercising, you may need an internal examination on your first appointment.  This will be explained in detail and you will be able to sign a consent form prior to the assessment.

Below are the conditions I commonly see which can be treated effectively with physiotherapy:

  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Urge urinary incontinence
  • Faecal incontinence
  • Overactive bladder
  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse
  • Bladder Pain Syndrome
  • Pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Rehabilitation pre/post gynae surgery
